"Pina's sick mother got so frustrated, that she wished Pina would grow lots of eyes for her to see things."

Growing up, my mom used to tell us this story about Pina, the Legend of the Pineapple.

It's a story about a lazy kid who just immediately quits on finding things that her ill and sick mother asks her to look for. And because of her mother's frustration, she wished Pina would grow lots of eyes to find things. Then the next day, Pina was gone, and at the place where they last saw her, they found this fruit with lots of 'eyes' growing —which is now what we call Piña (Pineapple).

Honestly, as a kid, this story did nothing to make me obey my parents' commands lol

Like Pina, I was also a lazy kid, the only difference is that, my parents showed me where things are and how to do things. Maybe Pina was not lazy, she just really did not know where to look and for what reason-and it was easier to call her lazy and wish her to grow more eyes--than to actually take time to understand, teach, and show her how things should be done.

This painting is Pina stepping out from the box and impressions people placed her in, her eyes were covered not because she is lazy to look for things-but because she allows her other "eyes" to direct her actions and decisions.

As Pina is almost like a mythical creature, I think she will match perfectly with the Mananggal - both fashionable too!

Send me a message under commissions if you imagine having this in a different size.
